GreenLight Biosciences is currently seeking an Assistant Controller to serve as a key resource to guide the finance department build-out and lead the technical accounting and SEC reporting workstreams. The proven leader will be overseeing the financial reporting process, establishing internal controls, shaping the department's policies and procedures, managing financial audits, and helping to scale the finance organization for commercialization. The successful candidate will partner with all levels throughout the organization and will interact extensively with external advisors and vendors. The Director, Assistant Controller possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, is excited to develop professionally within a high growth organization, and has hands-on, can do attitude to collaborate within a highly diverse finance function. This position will report to the Senior Director, Controller.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Ensure that the company has a strong financial infrastructure and internal controls required to support continued growth.
  • Prepare comprehensive analysis and financial presentations for senior management
  • Oversee the financial statement preparation process, analyze and review footnotes, disclosures, and other necessary supports for SEC filings
  • Conduct technical accounting research on complex accounting and reporting issues, including but not limited to collaboration accounting, equity and debt financing, lease accounting, and stock compensation
  • Assess new and complex business transactions, especially those which involve significant judgement and technical expertise
  • Play an integral role in establishing the Company's Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance program and audits
  • Draft and implement policies and process narratives to ensure a strong internal control environment
  • Oversee all aspects of cash flow, cost allocation, financial statements, consolidations, and assist FP&A with financial modeling and analysis
  • Support the implementation of various systems and processes within the department, including an ERP system, Accounts Payable automation, equity administration program, inventory and supply chain module, and other ad hoc system roll-out, to ensure compliance with our internal control framework
  • Achieve preparedness for commercialization/ product launch accounting, including revenue recognition
  • Manage the audit process, including maintaining relationships with auditors and external advisors
  • Improve and implement appropriate financial systems and processes; research and apply industry best practices
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
    • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting or equivalent work experience
    • 8+ years of progressive experience in managing finance and accounting functions
    • CPA, including Big 4 or large regional firm experience
    • Experience in life science industry preferably mix of large and small company environments
    • Strong technical (US GAAP) accounting background and SEC reporting acumen
    • Familiarity with compliance requirements of a public company
    • Detailed knowledge of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, including Section 404, and an ability to drive the Company's compliance with all relevant accounting and certification requirements

      • Strong analytical, communication, organizational and customer service skills.
      • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
