Description

The Environmental Studies Program at Tufts University (Medford, MA) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, lecturer position in Environmental Data Science and Communication beginning September 1, 2023. This position is a 9-month academic appointment with a two-year initial contract and possibility of renewal thereafter. The lecturer will teach the equivalent of three courses per semester, including both introductory and upper-level courses such as: Introduction to Environmental Studies or equivalent; Introduction to Environmental Fieldwork; and Environmental Data classes such as Environmental Data Literacy and Story Telling and/or Environmental Data, Analysis & Visualization. In addition, the faculty member will advise Environmental Studies majors in course planning, mentor senior research projects, and provide program and university-wide service.

The successful candidate will be joining a vibrant program. The Environmental Studies Program (ENVS), established in 1984, is one of the oldest environmental undergraduate programs in the country. Student interest in the ENVS program continues to increase and is now one of the largest academic programs at Tufts University. ENVS prepares students to have a deep understanding of the critical issues facing society, essential analytical skills, and the ability to communicate their knowledge to their peers and the general public. ENVS offers two majors and two minors and sponsors a wide range of extracurricular activities, including a weekly lecture series. More information about the program can be found at Go.tufts.edu/ENVS.

Qualifications

The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in a relevant area of expertise. We welcome candidates with diverse academic backgrounds, including but not limited to the sciences, natural resource management, engineering, or geography. Candidates with experience using and visualizing interdisciplinary data to address complex environmental problems, and experience involving students in stakeholder-relevant projects are desired. Applicants must have demonstrated teaching excellence and commitment to enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.
